Selecting the right tennis racket can sometimes be like heading into a minefield. With so many different technologies we are often blinded by science without paying attention to the basics. By selecting the right type of racket with the head size appropriate to your skill level, you can then narrow the selection and chose your perfect racket.

Finding your perfect racket is possible, you just need to be aware of your playing style and skill level. You can then make an informed choice from the thousands of different rackets on the market.

Serve and volley players will need a light and manoeuvrable racket. A power racket will be ideal for them as it generates a high ball speed off the strings. If you have a short or narrow swing, opt for a power racket that can generate a high ball speed off the racket.

A heavier control racket is perfect for those with a wider or longer swing. If you have no problem generating your own power then these rackets will round off your game with the addition of extra control.

Hybrid rackets are suitable for aspiring players who haven’t fully mastered their strokes but want a racket that will help them make shots with confidence. They are forgiving rackets but do not generate a huge amount of power.

Midsize – 70 to 89 sq in Midplus – 90 to 105 sq in Oversize – 110 to 115 sq in Super oversize – 116 to 135 sq in

Midsize – from 70 to 89 sq in Midplus – from 90 to 105 sq in Oversize – from 110 to 115 sq in Super oversize – from 116 to 135 sq in

A racket with a large head size is ideal for a beginner due to its larger “sweet spot”. This spot allows for a greater margin of error when making shots. A smaller head size is better for a player that can generate power in their swing.

Midsize -70 to 89 sq in Midplus -90 to 105 sq in Oversize – 110 to 115 sq in Super oversize – 116 to 135 sq in

You can find out your grip size in less than a minute and avoid any worry. Take hold of a racket and hold it like you were shaking hands with it. If you can just fit your finger between the palm of your hand and the end of your fingers then you have the right sized racket.

To measure your grip size, grab the handle as if you are shaking hands with the racket. You should just be able to fit your index finger between the palm of your hand and the end of your fingers.

Once you have found the right racket, make sure that you can give it a test drive. If you are a smart shopper you can pick up the previous seasons models at discount, or even discounts when finding a pair of your perfect tennis rackets.

The majority of players are a grip size 3. Please be aware that the smaller rackets sizes are best for Juniors or those with smaller hands.

Normally grip size 1 is just for juniors, with 2 and 3 for adults with smaller hands, 4 for those with bigger hands and 5 reserved for those with the large hands.

With this advice you will be well armed to find the best racket to fit your game. Make sure that you give it a try before you buy and also keep a look out for special offers on bulk deals or models from the past season. There are some great bargains to be found.

August 12th, 2009 was a beautiful, sunny Wednesday morning in Montreal. Because I was working at the Rogers Cup, I got admission to the grounds and had specifically asked for Wednesday off so I would be able to go check out all the players’ practices. It was really a loaded draw with the most talented ten competing during the day.

At 11 that day, a friend and I walked over to Court four where the world’s No.1, Roger Federer, was expected to get there at 11:30am. Already jam packed with about a few hundred people, there was barely any room to move.

As the time neared, the place was packed with fans who enthusiastically waited to get a glimpse of the Swiss Maestro. With the sun soaring at 95 degrees fahrenheit, we watched him warm up and start hitting balls. To be frank, it was quite uneventful and was supposed to last 2 hours.

So, slowly, we squeeze out of the crowd and come to an open space. I look up at Court four on the other side to see a tall, lanky player dressed in a pink Nike T-shirt and white shorts hitting a few balls. I try to look closer and indeed came to see it was Juan Martin Del Potro.

As he came to the exit gate, there were 6 fans waiting for him to earn his signature and he did sign. As he signed my picture and proceeded to my pal, I told him “I wish you the best of luck in your competition today.”

He turned around and had a huge grin on his face and claimed “Thank you so much for your support.” He seemed like he was extremely pleased about what I had said to him.

As he won yesterday, the irony of this situation just came to my thoughts. The fact that essentially nobody was at hand to root for him and Federer had a ton of fans. Sometimes, it is better to be let alone than to be constantly followed.

Del Potro played a fabulous match this week and is totally worthy of his championship. Vamos!

Victoria Azarenka was born on July 31, 1989 in Minsk, Belarus. She is a tennis player who was known to be the Junior World Champion in 2005. She conquered the 2007 US Open Mixed Doubles Title with her teammate Max Mirny and also the 2008 French Open with Bob Bryan. She resides in Scottsdale, Arizona and trains in Marbella, Spain. On February 23, 2009 she achieved a career high of No. 11 in Singles.

In 2005, Azarenka got both the Australian and US Open as a Junior and was named the ITF Junior Girls World Title for that year. She was the pioneer player from Belarus to do that. She also triumphed her first ITF title in Petange, Luxembourg in the same season. In China, she reached her first pro-level semifinal, winning 3 qualitfying rounds and beating both Martina Such and Shuai Peng in the primary draw before being defeated by the event champ, Yan Zi.

Everyday Azarenka have been one of the first players to be out in the field to work out. Together with her trainer, Mark Wellington, they started gradually. Headphones on, she swings her arms forward and backward then gently tosses and kicks a soccer ball with him. The drills and the ball eventually speed up until both player and trainer are quick-stepping to keep it before them. Usually, you will see tennis players take small breaks during those workouts and share a laugh with their instructor. But not this lady. When the ball gets past her, she stamps her foot in frustration.

The 19-year-old Azarenka won her first WTA Tour Singles Title earlier this year by conquering the Brisbane International. The World No.14 Belorussian is now 13-1 this year. The only defeat to date was against Serena Williams in the Australian Open when she disappointingly had departed from the fourth-round match because of faintness and illness.

Azarenka posted a 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 6-3 Quarterfinals victory over Safina, who would have claimed the World’s No.1 ranking from Serena Williams by reaching the final. But for Azarenka, she ran as an athlete filled with assurance right after capturing her first two career WTA Titles this year in Brisbane and Memphis. Safina appeared to achieve the match in her grasp when she took a 3-1 lead during the third set, but she couldn’t hold on to the supremacy.

Shahar Pe’er’s excellent run in the singles draw at Indian Wells came to an abrupt end, but at the very least she could console herself with moving forward towards the Semi-finals of the doubles event hours later. Despite converting four of her five break points, Pe’er was on her back foot for most of the fight, with Azarenka governing the Israeli’s service games, breaking six times.

Svetlana Aleksandrovna Kuznetsova was given birth on June 27, 1985 in St Petersburg. She is a Russian professional player in tennis. She won the US Open (2004) and the French Open (2009) defeating Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina. She was the Runner-up in Singles at the French Open 2006) and the 2007 US Open, both times to Belgian player Justine Henin. By May 17, 2010, Kuznetsova is ranked World No. 6.

Kuznetsova undergone her training in the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Spain and she was coached by Emilio Sanchez and Stefan Ortega together with other coaches in the academy. But her major coaching relationship was with Stefan Ortega who had been a familiar personality in her player’s box and had assisted her play. Right after a series of depressing outcomes in finals Kuznetsova’s ended her relationship with Sanchez-Casal Academy and transferred to Moscow as the advice of Roger Federer and continued to be coached by a Russian coach Olga Morozova.

Kuznetsova is definitely an all-around tennis player as she has adapted her game to all surfaces. Her play is seen with her great serve and her heavy forehand. Kuznetsova’s serve is assisted by her strong physique, and she’s often considered to be one of many physically strongest players in the Tour together with the Williams’ sisters. Lots of tennis professionals state that her powerful inside-out forehand is among the best in the women’s game. She’s competent at beating winners of both wings. Her volleys are very effective, and she is effective at producing deft touch.

Kuznetsova began playing in tournaments on the ITF Circuit, winning her first title in the circuit in April 2001. Her first performances in the main draws of tournaments on the main WTA Tour were at the Madrid Open in May of that year and at the Waikoloa Championships in Waikoloa, Hawaii, losing in the second round on both occasions.

Her last tournament before the French Open was in Mutua Madrilea Madrid Open, where she was defeated in the first round by Shahar Pe’er. Being the defending champion in the French Open (2010), Kuznetsova is the 6th seed. She conquered Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-1 in the first round and will face Andrea Petkovic in the second round.

This article is for new or intermediate Table Tennis players who are buying a new table tennis table or wish to upgrade, we will be talking about what you need to look for when buying a table tennis table.

Remember they want your cash!

All manufacturers are trying to convince you that their product is the best for you! So you must get it clear in your mind what you need from a new table. You must focus on what is important to YOU before you buy a table. Are you playing with a few mates in the garage after school, or can you see yourself as the next Olympic Champion, because in this day and age not many people have got money to burn right!

Is this your Families First Table Tennis Table.

If you intend to allow all of the family to use the table I would suggest looking to the budget end of the market. Lets face it young families tend to give a table a hard time when learning, so it makes sense to buy carefully at first, and later upgrade if somebody shows real flare and commitment to the sport.

Fixed or Folding Table.

Few people have the room to leave a table tennis table set up permanently in the house so i would recommend a folding table as they are very easy to use, and make good starter tables. Ensure the table can be setup and closed by 1 person. Good tables have rollers so you can move it around. You don’t want your table to move during play, so ensure the brakes work well.

Even if you determine that you can leave your table set up all the time, things can, and inevitably do change so a folding table can make very good sense in the long term. There are many factors to consider when making a big purchase such as this.

Is Table Thickness an issue?

Tables that are used for competitions are always 25mm or 1 inch thick and are quite expensive for most users. I think most people will be perfectly happy with a good quality 19mm table. I’m sure even Olympic champions didn’t start on top spec competition standard tables so consider all the options first. Manufacturers like Stiga make marvellous tables, so unless you can find a 25mm table at an irresistable price, this would be my recommendation.

When you are playing competitions it makes sense to practice on a table of the same standard as your competetors, so now is a good time to upgrade.

Don’t just look at the playing surface.

Good tables don’t just have a great playing surface, make sure you check out the support legs. All good tables have leg levellers. This is essential if you plan on playing outdoor table tennis. All Tables should be 76cm from ground level. Quality is crucial if you want your table to last, so look at the ancillaries like net fittings, are they going to fall apart?

All these small points add up and you deserve to get a good quality product for your money. These days good quality and value for money are important and if you follow these points I’m sure you will find a great table

Paul Bucannon has been playing Table Tennis for many years, and knows how vital it is to get a quality product for a great price when <noindex>Buying a Table Tennis Table</noindex> Take a look at his site for more money saving information for your next <noindex>Table Tennis Table</noindex>

She’s trained by Glen Schaap, former trainer of Nadia Petrova. Her mother, Rauza Islanova was previously her coach when she was younger yet still offers tips to Dinara. Her dad was the Director for the Spartak Tennis Club in Moscow.

On July 29, 2002 she appeared into The Top 100. She also received her very first WTA Title in Sopot, defeating Nagyova and becoming the ever youngest Tour Champion in four years and first qualifier to grab the title in three years. On the same year, she defeated a top-notch 20 player Silvia Farina Elia who had previously been seeded 14, the very first time in Moscow, at the age of 16. On July 14, 2003, she broke on the top 50. She won her another WTA Title over Katarina Srebotnik in Palermo. In that particular year, she hit the fourth round on the 2003 US Open and also reached the Quarterfinals in Doha, Sopot & Shanghai. She defeated the defending champion Magdalena Maleeva in Russia.

For the 2004 Australian Open, Safina upset Amanda Coetzer of South Africa before losing to Kim Clijsters of Belgium. For the first time, Safina ended the year for the Top 50 and reached third career final at Luxembourg where she lost against Alicia Molik. She conquered her biggest career Singles Title at Paris Indoors beating Amelie Mauresmo . Partnering Elena Dementieva, she won the crucial Doubles Rubber at the Fed Cup final in 2005. She surprised the World’s Number One Maria Sharapova during the QF in the 2005 Kremlin Cup, winning 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

In the 2007 Australian Open, she achieved the Tier I in Rome Final by defeating Top Ten Tennis Players Kim Clijsters, Elena Dementieva and Kuznetsova, but was also defeated then by resurgent Martina Hingis 6-2, 7-5. In the 2006 French Open, she reached the Quarterfinals for the first time in her tennis career. During the fourth round, she defeated number four seed Sharapova 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. In the third set, she trailed 1-5 but managed to drag the upset of almost 21/2 hours of play. To start the grass season, following her excellent execution on clay, she reached her very first Grass Court Final on the Ordina Open, but got lost to Krajicek 6-3, 6-4.

In her first tournament of 2007, Safina battled her best right through to the finals of the Tier III Event at Gold Coast, Australia. She defeated the number one-seeded Martina Hingis during that final 6-3 3-6 7-5 on her first WTA Tour Title since May of 2005. That victory also saw her rise to the World’s Top-Ten.

Samantha Stosur was born on March 30, 1984 in Brisbane, Australia. She is a tennis player and as a doubles player, she was ranked first in Top 100 with Lisa Raymond. Right after she became a competent tennis player in 1999, she conquered four ITF Singles, twenty-two WTA Doubles and eleven ITF Doubles.

Lisa Raymond is often her teammate and they have won two Grand Slam Title in the Doubles Competition. The first title was in 2005 in the US Open where they competed Elena Dementieva and Flavia Pennetta. And also the second title, a year after in the French Open. There they competed the finals against Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama. In 2006 they played the final again within the Australian Open but lost to Yan Zi and Zheng Jie.

Yet another defeat in the finals happened in 2005 during the Australian Open where she and Scott Draper lost to Liezel Huber and Kevin Ulyett. The twenty-two WTA Doubles were gotten at Sydney, Amelia Island, Luxembourg, Moscow, Tokyo, Memphis, Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Stuttgart, Linz, Berlin, Eastbourne and many others. Twenty of them were won along Lisa Raymond and the first two along Bryanne Stewart from Australia. Her game being a player in Singles in the Grand Slam Tournament was not very impressive. She has achieved the second round in 2004 in the US Open coupled with the same result at Wimbledon in the years 2006 and 2007.

During the French Open in 2007 she stopped in the third round and in the Australian Open in the fourth round in 2006. A major success for this lady was to defeat Mauresmo at the Rome Masters in 2007 inside the second round. Unluckily she was stopped during the third round by Patty Schnyder from Switzerland.

She is definitely talented but until now she had crucial achievements being a player in Doubles than as a Single player.

Jelena Jankovic was born February 28, 1985 in Belgrade, Serbia. She is one of the Top Tennis Players in the world and former World’s Top One. She was acquainted into tennis by her elder brother as well as fitness instructor Marko when she was 9. Her mom, Snezana, travels the world with her and was really a big influence on her tennis career.

Jankovic won her first Junior National Title at the age of 11. Right after such success, she was sent to Florida where she entered Nick Bollettieri’s Training Academy.

Being a Junior, she won the 2001 Australian Open thus becoming the Junior World’s Number One Junior Tennis Player. In 2001, she started to play in the WTA Tour. She then became a professional tennis Player in 2002. Jankovic has reached the Singles Final from the US Open (2008), the Singles Semi-finals of the Australian Open (2008) and the French Open (2007, 2008). In 2007, she conquered the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Title with British partner Jamie Murray.

She was recognized as the World’s Number One Player for seventeen consecutive weeks but was overtaken by Serena Williams on February 2, 2009. Before the season ends, she was recognized the World’s Number One in 2008, the first player in the entire history within the WTA Tour to do this without winning a single Grand Slam Title.

Jelena has downplayed her inability to win a Single Grand Slam Tournament stating that there are a lot of tennis players who’ve won Grand Slam Competitions but most women have ended the season as World’s Number One. However, she can’t be regarded as the best player if she is not able to got some Grand Slam Competitions in her tennis career.

Although Jelena has great ground strokes, she doesn’t have a serve which could bail her from tight spots. Her emotional outburst causes the lady to lose points. She is easily disturbed on court. Also, she doesn’t take defeat too seriously which is really a good characteristic when it comes to sportsmanship but may reduce her need to go all out to win matches. We will have to wait and find out if Jelena Jankovic has the capacity to win some Grand Slam Competitions during her career.

Anybody that watches women’s tennis can not fail to notice the advances in game over the last 30 years or so.

Women seem to be a lot stronger and faster in the sport lately. Here is my opinion of who I think are the top 7 players since 1980 in women’s tennis, in reverse order.

7. Venus Williams, her achievements in her Grand Slams and her Wimbledon wins just go to show what an immense talent this woman is, and with her rivalry with her sister Serena this woman just seems to grow each year.

6. Justine Henin, still only 27 years of age, Justine at her peak was a match for both of the Williams sisters, but she retired at the peak of her career, and only now has started to make a comeback. Let’s just hope she can recreate her previous form.

5. Monica Seles, Monica was an awesome prospect, and after winning 9 Grand slams at an early age she was tipped to become one of the all time great women players; but after she was stabbed in an incident, Monica failed to reproduce her best Tennis, and subsequently seems to have faded from the spotlight.

4. Chris Evert. Chris was an icon of both the Seventies and Eighties and managed to win 18 grand slams in her glittering career.

3. Serena Williams: another powerhouse Tennis player, Serena can go toe to toe with any women’s player around today, a real force to be reckoned with in today’s tennis.

2. Martina Navratilova. This lady was a dominant force in women’s Tennis for over a decade and her 18 Grand slam victories plus numerous other titles in her career says it all.

1. Steffi Graf, I think that the fact that Steffi had won an amazing 22 career Grand slams just gave her the edge over Martina for the top spot. This girl would be a match for anybody on her day, but as I said earlier this is just my opinion.
